About

I live in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, Aotearoa/New Zealand.

My practice is driven by a love of the natural world, the interconnectedness of everything, and, consequently the enormous impact an obsessive culture of extraction and consumption has on ecology. I am a painter, I also make small sculpture often incorporating found and discarded materials. I have spent much of my life beachcombing the rugged coastlines of Aotearoa collecting rocks, driftwood, bones, beach glass and more and more plastic waste. I work from a studio filled with my finds at artist run gallery Arthaus Contemporary, Orakei.

My work contains principles of both landscape and abstract painting, an understanding of the emotive power of colour,  what is beauty and  a fascination with the alchemy of materials and how we value them. I am interested in the “atmosphere” or energy contained in a work that is conjured from the multitudinous influences at play on any given day on both artist and materials. Living in these times my work more often contains  shouts of protest, of despair, of love and hope for the survival of our world.  I wonder what we are leaving our future generations.

I am a strong believer in the connective and beneficial power of art, and I enjoy working with art in communities to engage and challenge behaviour regarding waste.
I am  a member of Re-Use Collective with 7 other artists  mindful of sustainable art practice.
